AEO vs SEO for a bootstrapped founder

Same underlying pages. Different retrieval environments. One commercial starting point.

What they share

Both need crawlable HTML, a clear title, one primary question per URL, internal links, and text a human can quote. Schema helps machines parse relationships you already stated in English.

If the page is thin, contradictory or hidden behind a screenshot, neither search nor an answer engine has much to use.

Where they differ

SEO is still largely about matching problem and category queries to a page, then earning the click. AEO is about whether a system can name you as the entity behind an answer, often without a click.

That means entity consistency (name, founder, offer, limits) matters more in AEO. Rank tracking matters more in SEO. OwnedSignal records both as separate measurements: impression, visit, AI mention, qualified enquiry.

How a founder should choose

Do not choose based on a vendor’s new acronym. Choose based on where buyers already look. If they search, fix search pages. If they ask tools, fix extractable answers. Most serious pages should do both.

We do not publish invented search-volume numbers. Customer language and sales notes beat a keyword spreadsheet when the company is small.
